TravelsGo ("we", "us", "our") operates the TravelsGo mobile app and website (together, the "Service"), a platform for carpooling, shuttle bookings, and on-demand rides across South Africa. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why, how it's stored, and the choices you have — in line with South Africa's Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 ("POPIA").
When you register, we collect your full name, email address, phone number, and a securely hashed password (we never store your password itself).
Before your first booking as a rider, we require your ID or passport number, physical address, and the name and phone number of an emergency contact. This is collected so that, in the event of a serious incident, there is a verified way to identify who was involved and reach someone on their behalf.
We collect the origin and destination you search for or book, and — for drivers who are online and available — an ongoing location while actively offering rides, so nearby ride requests can be matched to you.
To confirm that the person arriving for a trip is the verified, approved driver, drivers provide a reference photo of themselves at registration. At the start of each trip, a fresh photo is compared against that reference using an automated facial-comparison service (AWS Rekognition). We store the similarity result of that comparison, not a separate biometric template or faceprint. Facial images are special personal information under POPIA; we only use them for this identity-matching purpose and do not use them for any other kind of profiling.
Drivers additionally provide their ID document, driver's licence, professional driving permit (PrDP), and vehicle registration document, plus vehicle details (make, model, year, plate, seats), so we can verify eligibility to drive on the platform before approval.
Payments are processed by Yoco, a licensed South African payment service provider. Card details are entered directly on Yoco's secure hosted payment page — TravelsGo never receives or stores your card number, expiry date, or CVV. We do store a record of the transaction (amount, status, and Yoco's reference for it) for booking history and dispute-handling purposes.
If you enable push notifications, we store a device push token to send you trip and booking updates.
We share personal information only where necessary to run the Service:
We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it with third parties for their own marketing purposes.
We keep your information for as long as your account is active, and for a reasonable period afterward where needed to resolve disputes, meet legal or tax obligations, or investigate a safety incident. You can request deletion of your account as described below.
You have the right to:
To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the details below.
We use industry-standard measures to protect your information, including encrypted connections (HTTPS) between the app, our servers, and our payment and verification providers, and hashed password storage. No system is completely secure, and we encourage you to use a strong, unique password for your account.
The Service is not directed at, and is not intended for use by, anyone under 18.
We may update this policy from time to time. We'll update the "Last updated" date above when we do, and for material changes we'll take reasonable steps to notify you directly.
